Thomas comes up short

Holy Cross point guard Torey Thomas missed a 25-footer at the buzzer, leaving Hudson Valley on the short end of a 73-72 overtime final in the open men's championship game of the Empire State Games.

Thomas finished with 19 points and no regrets, according to game coverage fromthe Journal-News:
"It felt good coming off my hands," Thomas said. "I wanted to take that shot. I should have made it."

Western played back on Thomas. They knew he could get to the basket whenever he wanted. So they invited him to shoot jump shots and most of them clanged off the rim. Still he had no qualms about taking a shot at the game-winner. He finished with 19 points.

"You just can never get discouraged as a basketball player," he said. "I've been doing this for a lot of years and you just can't get discouraged."
