Lafayette schedule released

From GoLeopards.com, a release on Lafayette's 2005-2006 schedule:
The Lafayette men's basketball schedule is set for the 2005-06 season and features several noteworthy non-conference opponents, including Saint Joseph's, Notre Dame, Fordham and Penn, in preparation for Patriot League action beginning in January.
It's may not be Bucknell's slate, but it certainly is a challenging schedule, especially for the league's lone non-scholarship team.

From an Allentown Morning Call, a notes column on Lehigh football:
But the days of Lehigh featuring a strong Valley presence could be ending, not only in football, but in all sports.

Stiffer academic standards mean that Lehigh coaches have had to extend their recruiting base to find students who qualify.

''We're now the 32nd-ranked university in the country academically and we're now being mentioned in the same category as Vanderbilt, Tulane, Georgetown, Northwestern and William & Mary, and some of the great academic schools in the country,'' Lembo said. ''When you have become that, it becomes a lot tougher to be admitted to the institution.

''We had almost 11,000 applications last year for a freshman class of 1,200. As a result of the increased standards, we've been forced to diversify our recruiting.''

So, Lembo's recruiting map now nearly encompasses the entire country.
Which begs the question: Does this mean Lembo now has to recruit transfers from Texas Jucos who flunked out of the safety school they originally played at?

Where have you gone Dave Steigerwald

From the Lawrence (Kansas) Journal-World, a nice piece centered on former Bucknell three-man Dave Steigerwald, who spent some time playing "professionally" after his college days were over:
The fuss over the Kansas City Royals' 18-game losing streak is lost on long, tall Dave Steigerwald.

"Hang their heads?" Steigerwald echoed incredulously. "They've got a long way to go before they can do that. They're not even a 10th of the way to where I once was."

And where would that be? On the losing end of 220 consecutive basketball games.

We'll probably never know

Could Bucknell beat Kansas again if they played a rematch this season?

Unless the two somehow would meet again next March, we will never know.

But according to the Lawrence World-Journal'sKUsports.com site, inquiring minds did want to know:
Schedule info: KU still is looking to fill a final date on its 2004-05 men's basketball schedule.

Interestingly, ESPN officials contacted KU and Bucknell about playing a rematch of KU's shocking 2005 NCAA Tournament loss.

"They talked about it many months ago, back in April after the season was over," KU senior associate athletic director Larry Keating said.

Details were not worked out.
Which is too bad, if for no other reason than that it might have stimulated sales of the infamous Rock, Chalk, Take A Walk T in the Hoop Time store.
